It was no easy feat re-locating Lion’s sparkling wine bottling plant into their Auckland multi-beverage facility. By deploying our Industry 4.0 tools and 3D virtual reality technology – we ensured a sparkling success.

Moving manufacturing plant into a new location can be stressful. Lion’s Auckland plant was being redesigned to package 50% of New Zealand's sparkling wine volume.

The challenge for us was to deliver Lion a deep understanding of their current Auckland multi-beverage facility. Working closely with Lion as part of an integrated team, we needed insights into building design, pipes, layout of plant and equipment and tagging existing assets to be relocated.

We deployed our latest Industry 4.0 tools: 3D point cloud scanning, 360 photographs and model panoramas. Our survey team accurately mapped out Lion's building, equipment and existing piping over the entire area in one day.

Data collection was integral to redesign and installation coordination, including identification of equipment that had been incorrectly placed and spotting complicated existing roof pipe structures. This insight meant not spending substantial amounts to rectify the incorrect equipment layout and avoided construction issues and delays.

Virtual reality technology made it far more immersive for Lion to visualise the relocation of plant - giving insight into layout and scale, minimising construction surprises as well as potential clashes or access issues for operations and maintenance - well before the relocating plant and equipment turned up on site.
