Beca to deliver Singapore’s first BCA Green Mark Platinum (Super Low Energy) Grade-A commercial building

Beca is proud to be a part of the upcoming new Shaw Tower development, the first Grade-A commercial building to be awarded the prestigious Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Green Mark Platinum (Super Low Energy) certification under the latest 2021 criteria.

Announced in December 2022, the award, which recognises best-in-class performing Green Mark Buildings with at least 60% energy savings, adds to a growing list of accolades received by the project – which includes the 2022 WiredScore Platinum rating for Digital Connectivity, and the International Building Institute’s WELL Rating for advancing human health and wellness. The project also received three additional badges under the BCA Green Mark certification for exemplary performance in Health and Wellbeing, Intelligence and Maintainability respectively.

As the Building Services, Environmental Sustainability Design (ESD) and Smart Building and ICT Services consultants for this project, Beca worked with Lendlease to combine efficient design and smart technologies to deliver this visionary project for the client, Shaw Towers Realty Pte Ltd, which includes:

  • an advanced hybrid air-conditioning system, smart Internet-of-Things (IoT) lighting and tenant power management strategies to significantly reduce the building’s carbon footprint
  • rooftop solar photovoltaic panels and wind turbine to provide renewable sources of energy to improve overall energy efficiency of the building
  • smart facilities management systems powered by an IoT ecosystem to monitor and automatically adjust indoor air quality and lighting levels for optimal energy efficiency and thermal comfort. It will also capture building occupancy and space utilization data to optimise workplace strategy
  • high performance air filtration and sterilisation systems that clean the air throughout the tower to promote better air circulation for human health. This is supported by Indoor Air Quality monitoring systems and controls that respond automatically to changes in air quality due to shifting occupancy levels or other factors.

“As the first Grade A commercial building to receive the BCA Green Mark Platinum (SLE), the project unlocked many firsts for the team, including innovative ideas to optimise energy, workspace and wellbeing. This would not have been possible without the deep trust from the clients, and we’re proud of the resulting outcome of this project,” - Irene Yong, Technical Director of Building Services at Beca
