NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK, USA, October 9, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ – He has not been sailing the Niña, Pinta or Santa María. On his fourth try, Don Victor Mooney of Kew Gardens Hills, chair of the HR 1242 resilience project, set off from Maspalomas, Canary Islands. Twenty-one months later, he arrived at the Brooklyn Bridge in New York aboard the Spirit of Malabo by boat.

Before leaving, Mooney visited the Casa Museo de Colón in Las Palmas, Canary Islands, where he discovered a great interest in the navigation charts of Christopher Columbus.

The Columbus Citizens Foundation, a longtime supporter of Mooney’s efforts to row across the Atlantic Ocean, invited the HR 1242 resilience project to the 77th annual Columbus Day Parade in New York City on October 11, 2021.

Resilience Project HR 1242 begins distributing items collected for Operation Arthur Ashe Tour on Tuesday. On the sidelines of the US Open Tennis Championships last month, tennis racquets, books and school supplies were collected in memory of Arthur Ashe for the children.

Arthur Ashe was the first US Open Men’s Singles Champion to be played in Forest Hills, Queens. His victories continued at Wimbledon and the Austrian Open, all first for an African-American. Ashe died of complications from AIDS in 1993.

The Grand Slam champion appreciated the power of tennis and education, said Don Victor Mooney.

Katrina Adams is a literary partner of the Operation Arthur Ashe Tour. Adams, a former professional tennis player, is the first black and the youngest person to serve as president, president and CEO of the United States Tennis Association. His recent book, Own The Arena, will soon touch the hands of young readers.

The first leg of Operation Arthur Ashe Tour will also stop at Long Island – Boston (MA) – Providence (RI) – Hartford (CT) – Newark (NJ).

The New York Presbyterian Hospital, West Side Tennis Club, Home Depot, COSTCO, Target, Wilson, YONEX, Tecnifibre, Dunlop Tennis, Volkl, Babolat and HEAD are other Operation Arthur Ashe Tour partners.
